From $5.33 per location, per month. Three day trial. No charge per user.
Most Google Business Profiles are about two thirds finished. The obvious fields were filled in when the profile was created, the business changed, and nobody went back. Nothing warns you about a field you never filled, so the gaps stay invisible.
A GMB audit tool reads every field and compares it against what a complete profile for your type of business looks like. What comes back is a list: what is empty, what is thin, and what is set to something that no longer fits.
The list matters more than the score. A score tells you there is work to do. A list tells you it is the secondary categories and the service descriptions, and that is a job you can finish this afternoon.
GMB, Google My Business or Google Business Profile?
All three names describe the same listing. Google launched it as Google My Business, shortened to GMB by everyone who worked with it, and renamed it Google Business Profile in November 2021. The product did not change. The name did.
So a Google My Business audit tool, a GMB audit tool and a Google Business Profile audit are the same job under three labels. We use GMB throughout this page because that is still what most people call it, and because searching for the new name does not make the old profiles any more complete.
One practical consequence worth knowing: the standalone GMB dashboard is gone. Management now happens in Search and Maps directly, or through software with API access. That is why an audit run from outside can see fields your own screen never shows you.
What the GMB audit tool checks
Every field Google exposes, scored against a complete profile for your category.
Categories
Your primary and secondary categories against what comparable businesses use. This is the single biggest lever and the field most often left at whatever was picked on day one.
Empty fields
Services, attributes, products, hours, description. Empty is a certain loss, where thin is only probably a loss.
Photos
How many, how recent, and whether the important types exist. An outside shot is what helps somebody find your door.
Hours and holiday hours
Including the holiday hours everyone forgets until a customer turns up to a closed shop.
Reviews and replies
Volume, recency and how many are still unanswered, because unanswered reviews read as indifference.
Consistency
Whether your name, address and phone number match what the rest of the web says about you.
How to run a GMB audit in four steps
The audit itself takes minutes. The value is in what you do with the list afterwards.
-
1
Point it at the profile
Your own or a prospect’s. No access to their account is needed to read what Google shows publicly.
-
2
Read the list, not the score
The number is a summary. The rows underneath it are the actual work, marked empty, thin or outdated.
-
3
Fix empty fields first, then categories
An empty field is a certain loss. A wrong category decides which searches you can appear in at all.
-
4
Re run it next month
Google adds fields, staff make edits and hours drift. Last year’s complete profile is this year’s partial one.
Who a Google My Business audit tool is for
The same audit, used three different ways.
Agencies pitching new work
Run an audit on a prospect before the call. You arrive with their gaps in front of you rather than a generic deck, and the fix list doubles as the scope of work.
- No client account access required
- Fast enough to run before a meeting
- White label the report as your own
Multi-location brands
Audit every branch at once and find the ones that drifted. Usually a handful of locations carry most of the missing fields, and they are rarely the ones anybody suspected.
- Every location scored the same way
- Shared gaps grouped into one decision
- Progress tracked month to month
Owners doing it themselves
One profile, no marketing team. You want to know what is actually missing without reading a checklist blog post and guessing which parts apply to you.
- Free to run, no account needed
- Plain list, not a grade
- Sized to finish in an afternoon
What a GMB audit will not tell you
An audit measures completeness. It does not measure rank, and the two are related but not the same thing. A profile can score in the nineties and still lose the map pack to a competitor who is closer to the searcher, has four times the reviews, or picked a better primary category.
It also cannot tell you why something changed. If calls dropped last month, the audit will show you whether anything on the profile broke, which is worth knowing, but it will not separate your work from a competitor opening down the road or a seasonal dip.
What it is genuinely good at is removing the guesswork from the part you control. Everything on the list is a thing you can change today, and none of it depends on anybody else’s behaviour. Rank tracking is a separate tool and answers a separate question.

Questions about the GMB audit tool
What is a GMB audit?
A check of every field on your Google Business Profile against what a complete profile looks like, returning what is empty, thin or wrong. It is a list of work rather than a grade.
What is a GMB audit tool?
Software that reads a Google Business Profile field by field and reports the gaps automatically, instead of you working down a checklist by hand. A good one returns an ordered fix list, scores every location the same way so branches can be compared, and can be re run monthly to catch drift.
Is the GMB audit free?
Yes, you can audit a profile without an account. The ongoing tools, including tracking whether your fixes changed anything, are on the paid plan from $5.33 per location per month.
Is this a Google My Business audit tool or a Google Business Profile audit tool?
Both, because they are the same listing. Google renamed Google My Business to Google Business Profile in November 2021 without changing the product. Most people still search for GMB, so that is the name used here.
Can I audit a profile I do not own?
Yes. The audit reads what Google shows publicly, so no access to the owner’s account is needed. That is what makes it usable on a prospect before a sales call.
How long does an audit take?
Minutes. It is fast enough to run on a prospect before a call rather than turning it into a project.
What should I fix first?
Empty fields, then categories. Empty is a certain loss and categories decide which searches you can appear in at all.
Does a higher audit score mean better rankings?
No. The score measures completeness. A profile can score well and still rank badly if the categories are wrong, which is why the list matters more than the number.
How often should I re run it?
Monthly. Google adds fields, staff make edits and hours drift, so last year's complete profile is this year's partial one.
Can I audit all my locations at once?
Yes. Every location is scored the same way so branches can be ranked against each other, and gaps shared across many locations are grouped into one decision rather than repeated forty times.
Can agencies white label the audit report?
Yes. Reports carry your branding and none of ours, users are unlimited, and the portfolio view puts every client on one screen.
Will the audit fix anything on its own?
The audit itself only reports. The fixing happens in the connected tools, where bulk update can apply one change across every location and Smart Tasks turns the findings into an ordered list somebody owns.
Does a GMB audit replace rank tracking?
No, they answer different questions. An audit tells you what is missing on the profile. Rank tracking tells you where you actually appear on the map across your area. A profile can be complete and still lose to a closer competitor.
Audit the profile, then fix it. Every tool, one price.
